The conference will be held at the campus of Alpen-Adria-Universität, Klagenfurt am Wörthersee, Austria.

Klagenfurt university is located 4 km west to the town centre, close to the beautiful lake Wörthersee.

Travelling to Klagenfurt

by train

Klagenfurt main railway station (Hauptbahnhof, in short Hbf) is located close to the town centre. For destinations and timetables see the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) website: http://www.oebb.at/en

The ÖBB-operated IC buses to/from Italy and to/from Graz also stop and leave outside the main railway station.

From Klagenfurt main station you can take bus 81 directly to the university. There is another railway station for suburban trains only, Klagenfurt West, closer to the university (about 10 minutes walking).

by plane

Klagenfurt airport (Flughafen) has direct flights from/to Cologne, Hamburg, Berlin (germanwings, not daily) and Vienna (Austrian Airlines). See http://www.klagenfurt-airport.com
From Klagenfurt airport you can take bus 40/42 to Heiligengeistplatz (central bus terminal). There you can take bus 81 (direction Krottendorf) or 60 (direction Strandbad) and get off at Universität.

You may also consider to arrive at one of the neighbouring airports: Ljubljana, Graz, Salzburg, Vienna, Trieste, Venice Marco Polo, Treviso.

From Ljubljana airport you can take the Alpe-Adria-Line bus (a one-way ticket costs 16 EUR). See www.alpeadrialine.com

From Graz airport you can take the S-Bahn train S5 to Graz Hauptbahnhof, where you can take the ÖBB IC Bus to Klagenfurt (the bus stop is just outside the train station). A one-way bus ticket costs 28,40 EUR; the journey takes approximately 2 hours. There are currently no direct train connections between Graz and Klagenfurt. From Salzburg airport you can take the bus to Salzburg main railway station, where you can take the train to Klagenfurt. See www.salzburg-airport.com and http://www.oebb.at/en

From Vienna airport you have to reach Wien Hauptbahnhof or Wien Meidling railway stations (by S-Bahn, bus, etc. See all options at www.viennaairport.com), where you can take the train to Klagenfurt. Direct trains between Vienna and Klagenfurt run every two hours on a daily basis in both directions; the journey takes approximately 4 hours. Check out the timetable at http://www.oebb.at/en

Tickets for ÖBB-operated service cannot be purchased at Italian railway stations. Train tickets can be bought online or directly on board; IC Bus tickets can only be bought online, as reservation is compulsory (due to the limited number of seats, it is advisable to book in advance, especially if you travel on the weekend).

Airport shuttles are offered from several destinations to Klagenfurt. Prices are as follows:

  • Graz – Klagenfurt: 61 EUR / person (103 EUR both directions)
  • Ljubljana – Klagenfurt: 51 EUR / person (82 EUR both directions)
  • Vienna – Klagenfurt: 87 EUR / person (154 EUR both directions)
by car

Klagenfurt is intersected by the motorway A2 (international route E55). Whether you come from the West (Salzburg, Villach) or from the East (Graz, Vienna), if you want to arrive directly at the university, you have to exit the motorway at Klagenfurt-Wörthersee, about 1,5 km after the Klagenfurt-West junction. If you come from the West, beware to keep the left at the Klagenfurt-West junction. There are no toll stations in Austria; to drive on Austrian motorways you must purchase a vignette (8,70 EUR for 10 days).

Several parking lots are available in the university campus (0,50 EUR every 1/2 hour or 7,00 EUR for a daily ticket).

 

Reaching the University

by bus

Klagenfurt university can be easily reached by public transport. You can take bus 81 (direction Krottendorf) from the main railway station (Hauptbahnhof) or from Heiligengeistplatz, or bus 60 (direction Strandbad) from Heiligengeistplatz. The bus stop Universität is located opposite to the campus main entrance.

by taxi

Taxis are available at anytime outside Klagenfurt main railway station as well as Klagenfurt airport (about 10- and 20-minute ride to the university, respectively).
